Our family is Tunisian, and it is spread across the world. Our two brothers were born in San Diego, California. They studied there, then in Dubai, then in Vancouver, carrying their schooling across three countries and three very different systems. We were born in Dubai, and we have done our own schooling here in Canada. Between all of us, our family has learned across America, the Gulf, North Africa, and Canada.

We hold onto where we come from on purpose. We are learning Arabic online and at a community school on the weekends, so the part of us that is Tunisian does not fade just because we grew up far from home. Living between cultures taught us early that a good education is never one fixed thing. It looks different in every place, and it leaves different gaps behind.

We also travel a lot, and everywhere we go we listen. We hear it from relatives who are struggling, from friends and classmates who are being challenged in ways that have nothing to do with how smart they are. Some do not have a good teacher. Some do not have a quiet place to study. And we cannot ignore the hardship, the instability, and the wars we see shaping the lives of kids all over the world.

The more we saw, the more we understood that this was never really about math, or Arabic, or any single subject. It goes much deeper than that. It reaches into the profound human experience of being a kid and a student anywhere in the world: wanting to understand, wanting to be seen, wanting a fair chance. A lesson is never just a lesson. It is confidence, it is dignity, and it is hope.

So we started building. At first it was just for us: clean lessons that explain the idea underneath, worked examples that go from easy to genuinely tricky, and practice that tells you the moment you get something wrong and why. And we leaned on AI, not as a gimmick, but as one of the most genuinely good uses of it we can imagine: a patient, personal tutor that adapts to each learner, answers in whatever language the idea finally clicks in, and never gets tired of explaining the same thing a tenth time, a little differently.

It worked, and it felt wrong to keep it private. The kind of attentive, elite tutoring we were giving ourselves has, for most of history, been reserved for a privileged few who could afford it. We think that is backwards. A child in Tunis, in Dubai, in San Diego, in Vancouver, or in a place shaken by war should have access to the same quality of teaching as anyone else. That is the whole idea behind Iqraa. The name means read, the first word of a long tradition of learning, and we want to put a deeply personal, genuinely elite education in the hands of anyone with a phone or a laptop, in their language, on their schedule, for free.
